Regarding U8: MX "E062674-MG" "MX23L4005-24C1" "RTC-RVL A" "2S08802" (RTC, TSOP28 18x8mm)
U8 is actually a Macronix Mask-ROM. Some data shows that it contains GameCube Fonts when accessed in GameCube mode. This could also contain boot/initialization code. The data sheet is here: http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/M/X/2/3/MX23L4000.shtml -- PaceMaker
- Hi PaceMaker - I think that almost certainly can't be correct, the chip specified by that datasheet has the wrong nmber of pins. I have heard there's a part on the gamecube that is similar (is both an RTC and an encrypted firmware rom) - I haven't looked into it personally yet though. --Sgstair 22:23, 5 September 2007 (MDT)
- Sorry for the confusion. I just counted the pins and realize you are correct. BTW, here is a link to the GC docs that mention a little something about the RTC/ROM chip in the GC. http://www.gc-linux.org/docs/yagcd.html
- My new wild guess is that it's a serial Mask Rom. -- PaceMaker
- Yes, that's reasonable. I have it from good sources that the GC chip was a RTC/serial rom --Sgstair 17:19, 7 September 2007 (MDT)
- Do you know of anyone who's been able to dump that ROM? It seems like it shouldn't be too hard to find the right 3/4 pins. Do you know if the GC chip was protected from dumping? -- PaceMaker

RE: X2 "32.768" "KDS0631" (32768Hz, RTC oscilator)
Newbie question... Does anyone know whether it would possible to replace this with a slower speed crystal? I work in a research lab looking at how to improve rehabilitation for patients with motor disorders (stroke, parkinson's, etc). We'd like have patients play some Wii games, but they are generally too fast. Thanks in advance. --Nlindig 16:17, 12 February 2009 (MST)nlindig
